Hi Everybody,

Well, I am looking forward to seeing you at the reunion and learning how we are all doing. One of the exciting things that happened to me is that, a couple of years ago, my doctor told me that I had diabetes. She put me on medication to control my blood sugar levels, but told me that I might be able to control the condition with exercise and diet. I have been exercising and watching my diet and have lost about 25 pounds and I have been off medication for about a year and a half.

My exercise is mostly bicycling; I try to ride 20 to30 miles a day and actually accomplish that four or five times a week. Last year, I also rode in the American Diabetes Association's fund raising Tour de Cure.
The Tour de Cure consists of bicycle rides of several lengths and I rode the 60 mile course. I did 62 miles in about four hours at a speed of a little over 15 miles an hour which is not bad for a 67 year old man.
More importantly, I raised a little over $1,000.00 which was enough to put me on the list of the top ten fund raisers. Alas, someone later came up with a little over a little over $1,000.00 and knocked me off the list.

This year, I am going to ride in the 100 mile course; it will be my first century. I also hope to raise a lot more this year and stay on that list. If you have diabetes, have a friend or relative with diabetes, know anyone at all with diabetes, have considered that you may be diagnosed diabetic, want to support a good cause or simply for 50 year old-time's sake, please give some serious thought to supporting my ride. To encourage you, I have attached an inspirational picture of me coming into the first rest stop last year. The ADA has made it easy to contribute by allowing me to create a page on their web site. Just click A.V. Tour de Cure Page <http://main.diabetes.org/site/TR?px=2324715&pg=personal&fr_id=3320>

The general ADA web site is ADA Home Page <http://www.diabetes.org/home.jsp>
<%3Chttp://www.diabetes.org/home.jsp%3E> and the Tour de Cure site is Tour de Cure Home Page <http://tour.diabetes.org/site/PageServer?pagename=TC_homepage>

of course, please forward this message to anyone you think might be interested (I suppose forwarding it to the phone book would be tacky.)

I am looking forward to the reunion and hope to see as many of you there as possible.
