LAKELAND - Louis John Schiemann, Jr. Age 74 died at Lakeland Regional Hospital on April 23, 2010 of heart failure.
Born in Norfolk, Virginia, graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Proceeding him in death were his father, Louis J. Schiemann, Sr., his mother Norberta Schiemann and brother Randolf Schiemann. Surviving are his loving wife, Sarah of Lakeland; his son, Paul Schiemann of Boones Mill, VA and daughter, Rachel Moore of Cornelius, NC, their spouses, 7 grandchildren and one great grandson.
Louis retired from VPI & SU Extension Service and from the US Navy. He was an All-Star in 4-H and helped many youth in their 4-H ambitions, created and taught the first Master Gardner program in Franklin County, VA. He belonged to the Lions Club for 41 years and received the coveted Melvin Jones Fellow award. He was a founding member of the first catholic church in Franklin County, VA and served on many of it's committees. He was an active volunteer of the American Red Cross. Louis loved to travel the US and abroad and to read about American history.
Memorial Services will be held at Lake Gibson United Methodist Church on Tuesday, April 27th at 11 AM. A funeral mass and internment in Rocky Mount, Virginia are pending. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Rocky Mount, VA.
ALMA ELIZABETH HEFFNER LUCK, 94
LAKELAND - Alma Elizabeth Heffner Luck, 94, passed away April 7th, at Good Shepherd Hospice of natural causes.
Since 1974, Alma has resided in Florida: Poinciana, Lake Wales and for the last fourteen years at the Florida Presbyterian homes complex in Lakeland.
She was born and raised in Scottown, Lawrence County, Ohio. Alma was a mother, homemaker, professional seamstress and fabric store manager, textile artisan, bowler and tournament golfer. With her husband Davis, Alma lived in Georgia, Costa Rica, Virginia, Rhode Island, Ohio, West Virginia and Maryland during their 71 year marriage. Alma is a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, currently at First United Methodist of Lakeland.
Alma was predeceased by her husband in 2008, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. She is survived by daughters, Sarah Schiemann (Louis) of Lakeland, Catherine Luck (Mike Roth) of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and Virginia Marple (John) of Bel Air, Maryland; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; one sister, Winne Lind of Cleveland, Ohio, and a sister-in-law Ollie Heffner of Lakeland.
